Brandon was a worker at the broadside beach location who was tasked to wear the Bucky masot costume. On an unknown day, Brandon died from a fentanyl overdose inside the suit, which was covered up by the broadside company by calling it a 'heatstroke'. After his death, he was injected with a material that turned him into a starling, which is a combination of the person's skin and the material of the mascot costume melding together. After his starling form was deemed safe to roam around the island, the murders of olivia, gary, and nathan occured.
In game, Brandon has the ability to break the barrels that Bucky hides in, as well as opening up different images on your browser.
Olivia is the in-game voice actor for olive otter who moved to broadside beach for the tropical weather and to make appearances as Olive's actor. During her time at broadside beach, the starling project was being put into place and Brandon (as a starling) passed the tests neccecary to roam around the park.
Due to the fact that Brandon was now allowed to interact with the public and that Olivia did voice acting for who is emplied to be Bucky's love interest, the two would usually preform on the island in their respective mascot costumes.However, during the night Olivia would usually report Brandon stalking her cabin while wearing the Bucky suit, usually trying to open the cabin door or banging his head on the windows, which would leave a stain.
While olivia was making what would be her last complaint, Brandon successfully broke through the window and dragged Olivia out fo the cabin, Drowning her in a nearby lake. After this event she was turned into a starling to cover the murder up. In-game, Olivia can look through the black bars of your screen, chasing after you if you dont get into a barrel in time. (she also jumps like REALLY high and it scares me)
Gary was the in-game voice actor for Giovanni Goose and a mascot handler at broadside beach. After a particularly long shift of voice acting Gary found himself wandering throught the staff kitchen, where he would (un)fortunatley meet Brandon. CCTV footage shows how Brandon repeatedly slammed Gary's face into a nearby cabinet and dunked his face into a still boiling deep fat fryer. Followed by the CCTV footage, there is also footage of the aftermath, showing how mangled Gary's body was.
Like Olivia, he was also turned into a starling. In game, Gary runs faster than any other starling and can hear tape recordings from far away.There is also more audio of Gary's murder that we get once we download the stolen files in the plaza. (totally deserved BTW anyone who likes giovanni or Gary needs death penalty)
Nathan is presumably Brandon's last victim, he worked as an animator for broadside. Nathan encountered Brandon when he was in the offices at night, trying to send an email to his friend. While trying to do this he found a USB drive countaining details about the starlings, confusing it with footage of some sort of horror movie that broadside scrapped.
After this, Brandon proceeded to beat Nathan to death with an office chair, damaging his legs, internal organs, and bones. After this he was turned into a starling despite the fact that he bled tons and 'needed work'. In game, Nathan is much slower than the other starlings, though he can break open the barrels that Bucky is hiding in like Brandon.
Rex is the creator of bucky and his friends (and blot), and the founder of broadside animation. He grew up relatively poor but didn't let that stop him from creating his own movies, utilizing real life photos in his films as well as using blot, an animated rabbit character.His animations became so popular that a big studio company had offered rex a deal which had led him to sell blot away, causing him to create bucky and freinds instead.
Rex was later on diagnosed with cancer, having a meeting with mark mullins (the person who Rex passed broadside animation onto due to his old age) which caused him to storm out due to how Mark only wanted to use his name as a marketing tactic. Rex had then abandoned the company when broadside beach was made, which he thought was a mockery towards him. After his death, studiogrounds, a themepark in florida made by broadside, was made in his memory.
He was also turned into a starling made to look like blot. In game, Rex uses the same mechanic as Olivia, but you can also prevent him from spawning by hitting moving barrels.
Vandal is a creature of unknown species, having fish scales, three toes, but also looking like some sort of rodent. Vandal is the product of the 4 starlings melding together to create one lifeform, then splitting into two seperate beings (husk and vandal).
Although there is not much current information on vandal, it is proven that he is an extremely important character by the fact that most of the teasers that squeaks has been posting has included Vandal. He also has been heavily implied to have a great role in the big stampede, which lead to the closure of studiogrounds.
Vandal also has a strange fixation on mark mullins, harassing studiogrounds about him and even showing up to his house (albeit, when mark went on vacation because he knew Vandal was coming for him). He will also appear in the next game in the shipwrecked64/ broadside beach story,blundercover.
The Husk is a wooden puppet that takes a few other forms depending wether you are playing the gamejolt edition or the full release. Simmilar to Vandal, Husk is made from the 4 leftover mass of starlings that combined together, this makes Vandal the Husk's other half, and the 4 starlings (everyone apart from Rex) are reffered to as 'components of him'.
We first hear the Husk's voice when we reach layer 3, playing a tape on the bridge where we find the light that is titled "PKJUJB", which is beaverscratch for "olivia". The tape describes in supsising detail what happened during Olivia's murder in a positive tone.
The next time that we meet the Husk is when we finish the test demo after the plaza, playing a cutscene where he tells us "You'll need to prove to me that you want what I have" and that if we find him we'll know everything. This kickstarts a minigame where we have to find copies of the Husk while all 5 starlings chase you throughout nulla terra. After finding all Husks you will unlock the true ending. (why does the Husk have a starling application but not Vandal???)
